Chapter 9 — Wave of the Future — 007 First Light Walkthrough
Overview
After Vietnam, Bond teams up with Charlotte “Isola” Roth to infiltrate Webb’s Antarctic R&D facility and destroy HYPERION — the weaponized quantum-computing core derived from THEIA. Indoor stealth, security checkpoints, multi-layer patrol routes, android enemies, and a three-stage Wreckie Sphere environmental puzzle.
The chapter is also the first time Roth pulls the rug. Sir Nicholas Webb is killed in front of Bond — not by Bond, by Roth — and Roth tries to walk away with the HYPERION core. Bond intercepts. HYPERION is destroyed in the chase.
Spoiler note: Moneypenny confirms during this chapter that the real Charlotte Roth is older and looks nothing like Bond’s “Isola.” She later admits her name is Isola, though even that may not be real.
Objectives (in order)
- Infiltrate the Antarctic facility — stealth-heavy first half.
- Disable cameras + security systems.
- Reach the Glass Wall Chamber.
- Find rechargeable batteries (left and right sides of the room) to maintain Q-Watch power.
- Unlock and use the Wreckie Sphere — eliminate androids with it.
- Guide the sphere into the giant glass wall → shatters → opens route.
- Lower the bollards — activate the controls on both sides of the staircase.
- Return to the sphere → launch into the ventilation fan → destroys fan → opening to HYPERION.
- Reach HYPERION through the destroyed fan.
- Final lab confrontation — Roth kills Sir Nicholas Webb.
- Roth’s first betrayal — chase + intercept.
- Destroy HYPERION core.
- Captured by MI6.
Walkthrough (key beats)
Q-Watch battery management. This is the gate mechanic. Pick up every rechargeable battery you see before engaging the sphere puzzle. Running out mid-puzzle means restarting from checkpoint.
Wreckie Sphere — three stages.
- Break the glass wall with one sphere launch.
- Lower the bollards via two side controls (split staircase).
- Destroy the ventilation fan with a final sphere launch — opens the route to HYPERION.
Clear nearby androids before destroying the fan. The sphere is gone after stage 3. Androids will swarm if you leave any behind.
Hide and Seek + Pacifist Protocols. Paired pacifist challenges through the Gantries and Utility Floor sections. Do not fire a single shot in either. Use Q-Watch hacks and the sphere instead.
Server section. Missile Pen on the two armed guards near servers — timed right, AoE clears three. Stay stealthy with a silenced pistol on the last guard. Hack the floor for Proxy Agent. Throw enemies off the elevator (R2/RT) for Going Down.
Roth’s betrayal. Scripted. You cannot prevent her from killing Webb. Your only player input is the chase that follows. HYPERION takes collateral damage during the intercept.
Collectibles
Wave of the Future is dense with environmental puzzles rather than collectible-heavy. Public guides as of launch list the structural pickups; the full count fills in alongside the campaign-completion roadmap.
| # | Type | Name | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Postcard | Antarctica Postcard | Rolling cart by the window, mid-facility. |
| 2 | Intel | (HYPERION reference files) | Lab corridors. |
| 3–5 | Playing Card | Server room cards | Hack-zone shelves. |
| 6 | Memento | (Lab equipment) | Glass Wall Chamber. |
| 7 | Legacy Item | Legacy near the HYPERION core itself. | |
| 8 | Intel | Final-room intel | Post-betrayal hallway. |
Notable Challenges (selection from 25)
- Pacifist: Wave of the Future.
- Hide and Seek — undetected through the Gantries.
- Pacifist Protocols — Hide and Seek + Utility Floor without firing.
- Stay Stealthy / Proxy Agent / No Time to Reload / Going Down — server + elevator combat objectives.
- Deadly Delivery / Terminated / Wrecking Baller / Perfect Strike — Sphere puzzle + combat tier.
Gadget mechanics
- Q-Watch battery management — the signature mechanic. Recharge stations are scattered around the puzzle chambers.
- Missile Pen (Clearance Level 15 unlock from TacSim) — strong against the server-area guards.
- Smoke Pod — break line-of-sight during alerts.
Tips
- Battery up before the sphere puzzle. Don’t restart mid-sequence.
- Wreckie Sphere is a three-stage tool: glass, bollards, fan. Clear androids before stage 3.
- Hide and Seek + Pacifist Protocols = no shots fired in two adjacent sections.
- Missile Pen on the two armed-guard servers. AoE for three.
- The Roth betrayal scene is scripted. Don’t waste reloads.
- Penultimate mission — stock TacSim cosmetics / gadget upgrades before For England.
