007 First Light Story — Spoiler-Free Synopsis
Spoiler level: none. Safe to read before you start the game.
007 First Light is IO Interactive's origin story for James Bond. IO's official one-liner frames it cleanly: "Follow James Bond as a young, resourceful, and sometimes reckless recruit in MI6's training programme, and discover an origin story of the world's most famous spy." The tagline — Earn the Number — is the whole pitch.

Who you play
Bond is 26 years old, a Royal Navy trainee aircrewman attached to MI6's 00-program. Patrick Gibson provides voice, face capture and full body work. The game opens with a black-ops retrieval operation in Iceland that does not go to plan. Everything after that is Bond climbing the ladder — Malta training, London nightclub field tests, a chess championship at the Grand Carpathian Hotel in Slovakia, a vertical black market in Mauritania, a Webb Industries gala in Kensington, a luxury resort in Vietnam, an Antarctic R&D facility, and finally a defence of MI6 itself.
Who's around him
- John Greenway / 009 (Lennie James) — the veteran 00-agent who mentors Bond.
- M (Priyanga Burford) — head of MI6.
- Q (Alastair Mackenzie) — quartermaster, builds the Q-Watch and the Aston Martin Valhalla.
- Miss Moneypenny (Kiera Lester) — M's executive assistant and Bond's primary comms contact.
- Dr. Selina Tan (Gemma Chan) — runs the TacSim department; central to the endgame.
- Isola Roth (Noémie Nakai) — French DGSE operative working alongside MI6. Probably.
- Bawma (Lenny Kravitz) — Mauritanian arms dealer and Aleph broker.
What's actually happening
MI6 has been using a quantum supercomputer called THEIA to predict terrorism. Things have started going wrong with it. Sir Nicholas Webb — the CEO of Webb Industries, the company behind THEIA — has business in every chapter of the game. So does a sibling AI named HYPERION. That is as much as you should know going in.
Tone & structure
The campaign runs across 11 cinematic chapters — a prologue plus 10 numbered missions — and an average playthrough is around 20 hours. Each chapter is hand-crafted rather than open-world, with sandbox sections inside. Three difficulty modes are available: Novice, Intended, and Purist. None of the trophies are difficulty-locked.
The closing minutes of the game contain the first full statement of the classic Bond theme in any of IO Interactive's work, and the closing card reads "JAMES BOND WILL RETURN." That is the only spoiler this page is going to give you.
