TacSim — 007 First Light Endgame Mode, Escalations & Operations
TacSim — short for Tactical Simulation — is the replayable endgame mode that lives outside the main campaign. In-fiction it's a high-tech VR simulation run by Dr. Selina Tan (Gemma Chan) inside MI6 HQ. The logo is a knight chess piece embedded inside a gun barrel.
Reviewers describe it as the spiritual successor to Hitman's Freelancer mode. IO Interactive has confirmed a post-launch roadmap that includes Valhalla race-track content.
Unlock structure
- TacSim unlocks after rookie training (Selina Tan introduces it).
- The first two Escalations — Iceland (Advanced Tactical Training) and Malta (Advanced Close Combat Training) — unlock immediately after their story missions and serve as extended tutorials.
- All other Escalations and every Operation unlock only after finishing the main campaign.
Two mission types
| Type | Tiers | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Escalations | 3 (Training / Test / Showdown) | Built on campaign locations. Each tier drops you in with randomized Game Changer modifiers that add constraints — disabled gadgets, headshot-only, no HUD, etc. |
| Operations | 1 | Single-tier missions for exploration and adaptation. No Game Changer stack. |
Each TacSim mission carries 7-10 challenges — mini-tasks for using specific gadgets at specific points, hitting kill conditions, etc.
Game Changer modifiers
The rule-altering system that randomizes Escalations. Confirmed examples:
- Disabling gadgets entirely
- Limiting Bond to ranged weapons only
- Requiring headshots for damage
- Stronger enemy variants
- Instant mission failure on open combat
- Instant fail on stealth break
- No HUD
- Increased enemy awareness
- Limited ammunition
- No checkpoints
Rewards and progression
- Completing simulations grants XP and Intel (TacSim currency).
- XP raises Bond's TacSim Clearance Level, unlocking shop items.
- Intel buys gadgets, suits, weapon skins, and gadget upgrades (e.g., increased Q-Watch laser damage).
- The Missile Pen Intel purchase requires Clearance Level 15.
- Iceland and Malta sim tiers and Mauretania tiers each reward ~100 Intel.
Leaderboards
Two leaderboards per challenge: Global and Friends. Agent Score is the compete metric. Scoring rewards three categories:
- Stealth — undetected, hidden bodies, silent movement
- Efficiency — fast completion, clean eliminations
- Style — creative takedowns, smooth chains, precision
Trophies tied to TacSim
- The readiness is all (Gold) — beat tier 3 of an Escalation
- 3 additional TacSim-tied trophies in the platinum path
Note: Operations only unlock after finishing the main story. Plan trophy cleanup around that.
Confirmed Escalations
- Iceland — Advanced Tactical Training (tutorial)
- Malta — Advanced Close Combat Training (tutorial)
- Mauretania — "Lords of Rust" (eliminate all hostile pirates under tier-specific conditions)
S-rank tips
- Suppressed sidearm is king. Silent shots shape patrol routes — break a light, redirect a guard, exit clean.
- Master tutorials first. Iceland and Malta unlock mid-campaign and teach mechanics the campaign skips.
- Stack modifiers gradually. Add one Game Changer at a time, memorize the layout, then add more for the score multiplier.
- Target radio officers first in combat tiers — stops reinforcement waves.
- The S-rank loop: Q-Lens map → controlled chaos → bodies hidden in vents / storage.
