Playtime & length
When did 007 First Light release?
27 May 2026 worldwide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store).
Pre-order customers and Deluxe Edition buyers received 24-hour early access, putting the playable date at 26 May 2026.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version was delayed and is now expected in Q3 2026.
How long is 007 First Light?
The main story runs 12–14 hours for a focused playthrough, ~20 hours for an average player (the figure IO Interactive’s own gameplay director quoted), and 25–30+ hours for full completion including all 92 collectibles, all 38 trophies, and the TacSim Escalations.
Chapter length is uneven: the Prologue and the Iceland finale are tight 45-minute pieces, while the open Mauritania and Vietnam chapters can run two hours each on a first attempt.
Difficulty & NG+
Is there a New Game Plus?
No traditional New Game Plus. Instead, Chapter Select replaces NG+ and is the recommended replay tool:
- Unlocked the moment you finish the campaign.
- Carries all gadget unlocks, weapon skins, outfits, and trophy progress forward.
- Lets you jump to any chapter for collectible cleanup or challenge runs without restarting.
- Lets you replay any chapter on a different difficulty (Novice / Intended / Purist).
Because Chapter Select exists, no trophies are missable — including the Platinum’s collectible requirements.
How many difficulty levels are there?
Three: Novice, Intended, and Purist.
- Novice — easier curve with no gadget cooldowns; recommended for a first playthrough if you want to focus on the story.
- Intended — IO Interactive’s designed-for tuning. Balanced parry windows, normal resource scarcity.
- Purist — the highest difficulty. Parry windows compress, and careful resource management is required.
You can change the difficulty mid-game by failing your objective (the death menu offers the switch), or from the main menu via Story → Select Chapter. There are no difficulty-locked trophies and difficulty does not impact challenge unlocks — you can complete every challenge on Novice if you want.
Switch 2 / platform
Is 007 First Light coming to Nintendo Switch 2?
Yes — the Nintendo Switch 2 version is confirmed but has been delayed to Q3 2026, several months after the main 27 May 2026 launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
IO Interactive has not detailed final performance targets for the Switch 2 build. There are no plans for PS4 or Xbox One releases.
What is the age rating?
007 First Light is a Mature/18+ rated action game across regions. The campaign contains frequent gun and melee combat, brief suggestive content (the Webb Industries gala and a Mauritania nightclub sequence), and the franchise-standard drinking and smoking. There is no nudity.
For exact ESRB / PEGI / USK ratings, check the storefront listing for your region — official rating boards finalised their grades around launch.
How big is the install?
80 GB on SSD at launch — IO Interactive’s published storage requirement on PC and the same footprint on consoles.
The PC version requires an SSD (NVMe / M.2 recommended). Mechanical hard drives are not supported.
Multiplayer / Game Pass
Does 007 First Light have multiplayer or co-op?
No. 007 First Light is single-player only. There is no co-op, no PvP, and no shared-world component. IO Interactive’s gameplay director confirmed during the run-up to launch that “multiplayer wasn’t in the conversation at all” during development.
The only online element is the TacSim mode — replayable mission-based scenarios with online leaderboards for Escalations and Operations. TacSim itself is solo; the leaderboards are the only place your performance touches other players.
Is 007 First Light on Xbox Game Pass?
No. 007 First Light is not on Xbox Game Pass at launch, and is not expected to be added to the service “for quite some time, if at all.” The game ships as a premium $69.99 / £59.99 release on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PS5, with no first-party subscription deal in place.
If you want to play it on Xbox without buying outright, your only current option is renting a physical disc.
DLC / sequel
Is there DLC or a season pass planned?
No DLC, expansion, or season pass has been officially announced as of launch. IO Interactive has confirmed it is monitoring community response before committing to any post-launch content roadmap.
The Legacy Edition includes the Golden Gun weapon skin, and the Deluxe / pre-order bundle includes the Agent’s Mark skin plus four outfits and four gadget skins — but those are launch-bundled cosmetics, not DLC.
Spoiler Will there be a sequel?
The game’s final cutscene cuts to a black screen reading “JAMES BOND WILL RETURN” — the classic franchise sign-off, which Beebom’s ending breakdown calls explicit confirmation that Bond will return in a 007 First Light sequel.
The story also leaves two threads explicitly open:
- Isola Vale / Charlotte Roth is revealed in the closing moments to be working with an unknown foreign client, not French intelligence as she had claimed, and she escapes with the AI core.
- HYPERION, the sibling AI to THEIA, is at the centre of the unresolved sequel hook.
No sequel has been officially announced, dated, or staffed as of launch.
Story / ending
Is 007 First Light open world?
No. 007 First Light is linear, structured as 11 hand-crafted chapters with open sandbox sections inside larger missions — closer to Uncharted or the modern Tomb Raider games than to a full open world. The Mauritania and Vietnam chapters in particular have wide, sandbox-style hubs you can approach from multiple angles, but the overall mission progression is one path through ten countries.
If you are coming from Hitman expecting full sandbox levels with dozens of kill routes, see our 007 First Light vs Hitman comparison — the design philosophy is deliberately different.
Spoiler What happens at the ending?
After dispatching the Webb Industries mercenaries with a customised Aston Martin Valhalla, Bond chases the villain Damien Webb into the sewers beneath MI6, disables his exo-suit, and drowns him by leaping into the floodwater below.
At Greenway’s graveside, M offers Bond the 001 designation — the lead 00 number — but Bond chooses 007 instead, and the classic James Bond theme plays for the first time in the game. The screen cuts to “JAMES BOND WILL RETURN”, confirming the sequel.
The Isola Vale / Charlotte Roth twist — that she was working with an unknown foreign client, not French intelligence — is the major sequel hook. She escapes with the THEIA AI.

Who plays James Bond in 007 First Light?
Irish actor Patrick Gibson provides both voice and likeness for the 26-year-old James Bond. Gibson is best known for Dexter: Original Sin, The OA, and Netflix’s Shadow and Bone. He is not connected to any prior Bond film cast — IO Interactive deliberately chose an actor without baggage from the Connery-through-Craig film lineage.
