Chapter 4 — The Past Never Dies — 007 First Light Walkthrough

Overview

After the “Out of the Ashes” bridge equips Bond with the Laser Strap at the Q-Lab, he and Greenway drive a Land Rover Defender 110 into the Mauritanian desert. Aleph is the destination: a vertical, multi-level black market built into a field of solar panels and a graveyard of beached ships. Snipers on rooftops, pulleys and ladders connecting tiers, and at the top of the pyramid, the pirate king Bawma.

Aleph teaches you how the game’s economy of side activities works. Bawma’s men gate access to a private auction behind $100,000 and an invitation. Bond raises both, sits next to Greenway, picks the right dialogue choices (“This man hates me” is a noted call), and ziplines between ship hulls to find 009.

Spoiler note: 009 has been booby-trapped to keep intruders out. He’s a victim of Webb’s frame-up, not the villain. The chapter closes on the “Protect Greenway” set-piece, which is scripted to be unwinnable — conserve ammo and let the cutscene trigger.

Objectives (in order)

  2. Follow Greenway through the shipwreck (three-thug brawl).
  3. Reach Bawma’s men, learn the auction’s price of entry.
  4. Earn $100,000 via three side jobs.
  5. Return the invitation + cash to Bawma’s men.
  6. Join the auction — dialogue prompts.
  7. Reach 009’s boat via the zipline + ledge route.
  8. Find 009 — disarm laser tripmines, time pirate patrols.
  9. Examine the crime scene.
  10. Wake Greenway.
  11. Drive to the Transworld wreck.
  12. Explore the shipwreck.
  13. Protect Greenway — limited-ammo defense set-piece. Ends in cutscene.

Walkthrough (key beats)

Equip the Laser Strap. Several Aleph collectibles — including the Mauritania Postcard — gate behind it. The Q-Lab “Out of the Ashes” bridge is where you do it.

Shipwreck brawl. Three thugs in close quarters. Use the tight space — wall slams and grapple-throws cycle fastest. Don’t burn ammo here.

Side jobs are the chapter. The auction is the front door, but the side jobs are where most challenges live. Don’t try to skip them and don’t try to fight the auction crowd — Bawma’s enforcers are scripted-strong.

Bottled It! — burner phone, no detection. Climb the box on the left at Scorpius’ hideout, up the stairs, hide behind crates. The burner phone is on a desk inside. Never engage; one alert = challenge failed.

Sightseeing — antenna, no KOs. Enter the market via the east yellow container, hang a left. Eavesdrop on the phone-call NPC to trigger the Crypto Wallet sub-objective. The patrol path lets you slip through on the second cycle.

Auction dialogue. When your turn comes, the dialogue prompts steer Bond’s cover. “This man hates me” is a recurring noted choice that keeps Bond plausible.

009’s boat. After the auction, take the zipline + ledge route between hulls. Disarm laser tripmines as they come — Q-Lens highlights them at distance.

Protect Greenway. You cannot win. Stay in cover, prioritize headshots, accept Greenway’s spare mags when offered. The cutscene triggers when ammo runs out — that’s the design.
