Bawma — 007 First Light Character Guide

Who he is

Bawma is the broker who runs the Aleph black market in Mauritania — a vertical, pulley-and-ladder city of weapons traders, fight-pit fans and laundered money. Lenny Kravitz voices him and provides the likeness, in the actor’s first ever video-game role.

Story role

Bawma is the gatekeeper for the auction at the heart of Chapter 4: The Past Never Dies. To even attend, Bond and Greenway need an invitation and $100,000 in cash — both of which run through Bawma’s network. He brokers introductions, controls who walks the upper galleries, and indirectly sets up the chain of leads that drags Bond into Chapter 5: Beyond the Grave at the ship graveyard.

He is not a traditional Bond villain — he doesn’t hate Bond, he doesn’t want to kill Bond, and the game does not push him into a final-confrontation arc. He is the local power in Aleph, and Bond’s job is to navigate him.

Trivia

  • The chapter’s signature gameplay set-piece — the vertical pulley-system traversal across Aleph’s stacked galleries — is set inside Bawma’s territory.
  • Lenny Kravitz’s casting is one of the celebrity cameos that the game’s marketing pushed hardest at announcement.
  • Bawma’s invitation-gated auction is also where the Mauritania Postcard can be picked up via the Laser Strap padlock.
