Disguises — 007 First Light Mechanics Explained
Fragments, not costumes
Bond does not get a full Hitman-style outfit swap. Levels hide fragments — hats, staff caps, access stamps, partial uniforms — and putting one on grants access to its specific zone. IGN summarizes it best: “Disguises take the form of hats that Bond can put on to completely bypass an area’s security by blending in with the security itself.”
Examples confirmed in walkthroughs:
- Waiter cap in the Grand Carpathian dining room (Chapter 3)
- Parka pickup in the Iceland prologue
- Formal jacket at the Webb Industries Gala (Chapter 6)
- Press stamp / lighting-rig crew vest in A Night Out (Chapter 2)
Watchers see through every disguise
The disguise system has one hard limit: Watchers (white dot above the head) are trained to spot impostors wearing their own kit. Walk past a regular guard in the right hat and they’ll wave you through. Walk past a Watcher in the same hat and you get challenged on sight.
Always Q-Lens before you commit to a hallway. White dot = take the long way around or distract with a Lighter ignition.
Step-by-step: using a disguise cleanly
- Hear the chatter. NPC conversations near a disguise spawn usually point at the location. Eavesdrop first.
- Q-Lens the route. Map which zones the disguise unlocks. A waiter cap won’t get you into a security office.
- Take the disguise off a body or pickup point. Bodies must usually be dragged to a hiding spot first.
- Walk normally inside the zone. Sprinting still draws aggro even with the disguise on.
- Drop the disguise before a Watcher line of sight. You can re-pick it up after.
Tips
- Disguises stack with bluff intel — wearing the right hat reduces the Instinct cost of a Bluff because the lie is more believable.
- The white tux outfit you unlock from Knightfall’s 24 challenges is a TacSim cosmetic, not a campaign disguise. Same for the Resort Casual outfit from Time to Die.
- Storage rooms, vents, and tall grass are the standard body-hide spots. Don’t grab a disguise without clearing a spot to stash its owner first.
- The Echo Trace earphones make finding disguises faster — extra eavesdropping range = faster intel on spawn locations.
Common mistakes
- Trusting a disguise around a white-dot Watcher.
- Sprinting in disguise — the AI flags movement before clothing.
- Grabbing a uniform without dragging the body, then watching the alert cascade once it’s discovered.
FAQ
Can Bond get a full costume swap? No — by design. IO Interactive limited the system to fragments to keep the spy fantasy “improvisational” rather than wardrobe-driven.
Do disguises bypass all guards in a zone? Only standard guards. Watchers (white dot) see through every disguise.
Do disguises last between chapters? No. They reset at chapter boundaries.
