Grand Carpathian Hotel — 007 First Light Location Guide

Overview

The Grand Carpathian Hotel is 007 First Light’s set-piece showcase. IO Interactive’s pitch — “Attend the World Chess Championships at the Grand Carpathian Hotel” — undersells what the chapter actually does. Bond, Monroe and Cressida slip into the hotel in tuxedos to track a blond bellhop suspected of working with the Murto twins, and the level wraps in the only Bond-game cutscene in years that punches with the same weight as the Casino Royale poker table. By the time the chapter is over, Monroe is dead, Cressida is paralysed, and Bond is on a plane out of Slovakia he is not supposed to be on.

Geographically the hotel is a single multi-floor sandbox with a public-facing lobby, dining room, balcony chess match arena, manager’s back office, and a delivery-service corridor that leads down into a service cellar. It is the location where the game first asks you to commit to social stealth as a primary mode — pickpocketing a maid for the Room 205 keycard, blending into chess spectators, and bluffing your way past staff. Two of the three big puzzle codes in the campaign live here as well.

Notable collectibles here

This is the densest single chapter in the game for collectibles — five playing cards, two mementos, an intel file, a postcard, and a Legacy Item all live inside the hotel.

  • Pillow Mint Memento — Pickpocket the guard’s key, staff-only room, shelf at the back
  • Championship Badge Memento — Squeeze past left of the leftmost screen behind the chess players, side corridor, on a crate
  • Chess Biography — Legacy Item #3 — Down left stairs after the chess balcony, right past the elderly woman, into the lavish Aston Martin-discussion room, on the coffee table
  • 5 playing cards — Ace of Acorns (balcony railing), Ober of Shields (Dining Room), 6 of Roses (Manager’s safe, 1952), 6 of Acorns (delivery corridor terrace), 7 of Bells (cellar prison-bars room)
