Smoke Pod — 007 First Light Gadget Guide
A short-range smoke release. Drops a cloud that blocks visibility for roughly 3–4 seconds — long enough to slip past a patrol, escape a botched stealth attempt, or break tracking on enemies who already have eyes on you. On the official IO Interactive gadget roster, the Smoke Pod is the group-concealment tool of the kit.
What it does
- Breaks line of sight even on enemies already tracking you
- Buys ~3–4 seconds of escape window
- Stacks with the cover-swap dash for a clean reposition
- Group bypass: a single pod can cover a multi-guard patrol path
Best use
- Group bypass when a Lure won’t reposition all the guards
- Mid-fight repositioning when a parry whiffs or you take a stray bullet
- Escape during a chase — pop, dash off-line, vanish
- Final-boss cover in For England — the recommended cover tool during the Damien turret-mirror phase
Resource
Chemical pool. Refill at blue-battery stations marked by Q-Lens. Pair with at least one Battery gadget (Laser Strap or a hack option) so you can still hack while the Smoke Pod is on cooldown — the “balanced rule” from FreeGameTips’ loadout guide.
Tips
- Pop it the moment a parry whiffs — you vanish before the enemy commits to the follow-up.
- Combines with the cover-swap dash to relocate across the room while the cloud holds.
- Useless against enemies who haven’t seen you. Save it for when stealth has already broken.
- During Damien Webb’s Phase 2 turret-mirror fight in Chapter 10, Smoke Pod is the standard cover spend for the Turret Aficionado challenge — pop, run to the turret, hack, spam fire.
Common mistakes
- Burning a pod proactively. The cloud is short — use it the second you need cover, not before.
- Running a pure-Chemical loadout (Smoke Pod + Dart Phone). You’ll run dry mid-mission.
